Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at jamie@firecrestnutrition.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Initial consultations cost £150, which includes a review of your intake forms, an hour virtual consultation and an in-depth report for you to keep.

The report is an individualised write up containing details of dietary and lifestyle changes that will help reduce your symptom burden and improve your health. It is more than a food plan, aiming to educate and empower you to construct your diet and adapt your lifestyle going forwards.

The number of consultations required is entirely up to each individual.

Most clients book in for a follow-up consultation every couple of months to discuss progress, ask questions and to continue learning.

I am based in England, UK. I often work with international clients as consultations take place on Zoom. I work in BST (summer) and GMT (winter), however can work flexibly to find a time that suits us both.

I have found blood and genetic tests to be very expensive and lead to even further confusion on what foods to eat and avoid. Whilst thyroid testing and full iron and copper panels can provide insight into the cause of histamine intolerance,  they are not essential to work with me. Ultimately, the best diagnoses for Histamine and MCAS are symptom-based - if your symptoms improve with a low histamine diet, you likely have a degree of histamine intolerance.

Clients often bring me their blood test results for interpretation from a Nutritional perspective, which I am happy to provide.

While there is an abundance of information on managing high histamine symptoms, finding clear explanations for the underlying causes of histamine intolerance or mast cell over-activation can be quite challenging.

You need more than a 'band aid' to your symptoms. You may already be aware of low histamine diets or the use of herbs and supplements, such as DAO, that help reduce histamine levels. However, these methods do not address the root cause of your problem. To truly help you, it’s essential to reach a point where you can enjoy a wider variety of foods, avoid chronic reliance on antihistamines or histamine-reducing supplements, participate in physically demanding activities without the fear of triggering a mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) flare, and reduce histamine-related conditions, like allergies and asthma.

What is key is the knowledge that there is a lot more going on than just raised histamine (this is ultimately the final stress state of the body). Elevated histamine levels are the surface issue, often leading to some of the most distressing symptoms associated with deeper, underlying problems.

When you say, “I suffer from high histamine levels,” you're not truly addressing the root cause of your discomfort; instead, you're merely outlining the source of your most bothersome symptoms. Although high histamine levels can exacerbate these deeper issues, they primarily indicate that more significant problems need attention. Failing to address these underlying layers means you may find yourself eternally managing high histamine symptoms.

This is where I can help you. Enhancing your metabolism, addressing hormonal imbalance, oxalate overload, a lack of bioavailable copper, SIBO, and more can improve your histamine reactions.

Absolutely not. Remission is achievable by addressing the true root causes - often by improving thyroid function and metabolism. However, histamine intolerance and mast cell activation are complex, and it is hard to heal in the same environment that made you sick. I will teach you to improve your diet, lifestyle and light environment.
